Abstract:
The traditional radiology value chain consists of acquiring raw sensor data, reconstructing the sensor data into images, aggregating insights from the imaging and medical data, and finally, creating a medical report. Through specific examples from our research studies in MRI, CT, and PET in varying anatomies, I will demonstrate how artificial intelligence (AI) can enable higher efficiency and efficacy along this entire spectrum. Specifically, I will emphasize how the individual components of the radiology workflow that currently have disparate solutions create a unique opportunity for simultaneous end-to-end optimization of future AI algorithms by jointly encompassing the entire value chain. I will end with an overview of key challenges and opportunities for the field, with a focus on how radiology can go beyond pixel data and utilize multi-modality sensor fusion techniques for improving diagnostics and therapeutics.
