Abstract: Voxel package is a Python package that offers optimized data structures and tools to manage medical images. Voxel provides efficient readers for DICOM and NIfTI formats built on nibabel and pydicom. It supports data-embedded medical images, where the MedicalVolume data structure supports array-like operations on medical images while preserving spatial attributes and accompanying metadata. The Voxel package makes it easy to prepare data for AI pipelines with a few lines of code. It also enables easy access to data stored in a PACS environment through DICOMweb. The package is open-source, and users can contribute to the development of the package.

Arjun Desai, MS
PhD Student
Stanford University

Bio: Arjun Desai is a 4th-year EE PhD student working with Akshay Chaudhari and Chris RĂ©. He is interested in how signal processing principles can improve robustness, efficiency, and scalability in machine learning. He is excited about how these methods can help build scalable deployment and validation systems for challenging applications in healthcare and the sciences. He is a recipient of the NDSEG and NSF GRFP Fellowships.

Rogier van der Sluijs, MD Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Stanford University

Bio: Rogier van der Sluijs is postdoc at the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging at Stanford. His research focuses on self-supervised learning, foundation models, and neural data compression. He's been working on tools to advance the medical AI ecosystem. He's a recipient of the NWO Rubicon award.
